Burning Shadows and the 2018 Format

Burning Shadows and the 2018 Format

Hello Everyone,

Today I am going to talk about the new set that was leaked on http://www.pokebeach.com/2017/07/english-burning-shadows-set-list-and-spoilers. It details every card in the set.

I am also going to talk about what cards will be good in the format, as this is the newest set going into the 2018 Season.

I will not post reprints in this article, unless it is a meme or something.

First the Good Synergy Cards:

Goliospod GX:

I think this card is good because, like Caleb Gedemer on Pokebeach mentioned, it is good with certain cards like Zoroark. I like this combo with Zoroark because it is very good at dealing damage, fast. It can be partnered with Float Stone (In Breakthrough) and with Max Potion (Guardians Rising) to maximize potential.

It only needs one energy to do its best attack. Many people are using it with Guzma (Burning Shadows, It's ya boy too). Or even with Olympia (Generations, Also not your boy). Regardless, it does it's job well.

Salazzle GX:

You heard it here first. It's so good because it does EVERYTHING for two energy! Not many pokemon do this. Even if you play other fire type cards, and you are ahead in Prizes, Salazzle is a beast of a card. 50X for each taken prize card is fantastic, especially late game.

Gardevoir GX:

Everyone has been talking about this Pokemon Card for days. It only needs one Fairy energy to do either its normal attack, or GX attack. Its ability is fantastic, as it is a mini deluge. This Pokemon will be good. Jose Marrero of 60 Cards likes this also, as he talks about it and Diancie on http://www.60cards.net/en/expert-blog/user/55/article/1018

Gyarados:

This Pokemon's first attack is fantastic. It does 50X for every magikarp that is in the discard pile. This with a choice band is insane.

Noivern GX:

This is exactly like Seismitoad from Furious Fists. It does a lot of damage, alongside with NO ITEMS for your opponent. This was a harsh era, and Noivern will see a lot of play.

Guzma:

This card is a lysandre, with the effect of switching your Pokemon Too. This works well with Goliospod GX as mentioned earlier in the article. This card will be a staple. Get 3 of this card.

Acerola:

This card is decent, as it lets you pick up Pokemon with Damage on it. This is good for bad situations, or strategy at its finest. This card will see some play.

Wicke:

This card allows both players to shuffle the hand, and redraw the same amount of cards that were shuffled in. This card will replace N when that rotates out of Standard (Most likely in 2019). This card is also a staple.

Olivia:

This card searches for 2-GX Pokemon. This is insane. This will help GX decks with consistency, instead of just luck. This won't be a huge staple, but at least a little bit.

Not So Good Cards:

Wish Baton:

This card isn't entirely bad, as it is a better EXP Share. But it is a tool, which can be knocked off by Field Blower (Tool Scrapper 7.0). Might see some play.

Tormenting Spray:

It's too risky, as it selects a random card and takes out a supporter if you guess right. Otherwise, it becomes Garbodor (Guardians Rising) fodder.

Alolan Ninetails:

Everyone hyped this card up, but people will get around it. It prevents EX and GX from attacking it, but abilities and Garbodor (Breakpoint) will still hinder its use.

Marshadow GX:

With Garbodor Rampant, and a weakness to Psychic, it might not do as well as people want it to go.

Meme Cards:

Rhyperior:

This card mills as it evolves. It tosses 3 cards from the Opponents Deck. This may not do much, but it can do something.

Bewear:

This is the seventh hundred card that has been made for this. It's double colorless attack is the same as Rhyperior's ability, but it requires a coin flip and it's an attack. Not that good.

Overall, some of these cards will be very important to the meta, and some won't. These are what I think will and won't do well. If there is any discrepancies, please leave a comment below.

Thank you,

Ethan Buck
